In Greek mythology, Athena is the goddess of wisdom, peace, warfare, strategy and reason. Athena was almost always attended by her owl, which revealed truths of the world to her, making it a literal manifestation of wisdom and knowledge. A fierce warrior, Athena helped heroes such as Odysseus and Hercules and never takes a parter. It is this that earned her the title "Athena Parthenos", meaning "Athena the Virgin", and accounts for the name of the Parthenon, her most famous temple, located at the Acropolis in Athens.
