Jamie Joseph Vertical Oval Brown Drusy and Diamond RingAgates are one of the most common materials used in hardstone carving practices today. And, archaeological evidence suggests that they were widely used in the creation of jewelry and sculpture in the ancient world as well. This is probably because of their abundance on the planet and unique stripes of color which make them beautiful to look at. In the typical formation of an agate, waters containing dissolved silica or quartz percolate through the walls of an empty rock cavity, such as a geode, and gather on the interior walls. After extended periods of time, the different layers of sediment which accumulate, create a thick mass of multi colored layers of stone. Because of the slow process in which the sediments accumulate, many agates are harvested before enough time has passed for the growing crystals to proceeded far enough to fill the cavities in which they lay. This results in a matrix of crystals pointed towards the free space remaining in the void, and, a new crystalline surface known as a "drusy" which is often uneven and full of shimmering edges.
This one-of-a-kind Drusy ring was hand crafted in Jamie's Seattle studio from a surface-cut Agate Drusy which was bezel set in 14k gold on a sterling silver Pumice band and given a .03 Pt diamond for added sparkle. Currently fits a size 7.25 finger, but, can be resized by the designer for a fee of $50. MaterialsSterling Silver 14K Gold Agate Drusy .03 Pt Diamond Price
